Terms of Service

Effective 30 October 2026 · Applies to the Scrolls app for Mac and this website

1. Agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and [Your full legal name or company name] (“Scrolls”, “we”, “us”), which makes the Scrolls app for Mac (“the app”) and runs this website and the online services the app uses (together, “the service”).

By downloading, installing or using Scrolls, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, don’t use Scrolls.

You must be at least 18 years old to use Scrolls.

2. The service

Scrolls records sessions through your Mac’s microphone and turns them into a transcript, study notes, Tasks, Practice and a glossary. It works on macOS and needs an internet connection while you record and while your notes are written.

Scrolls is in public beta. It may have bugs, and we may add, change or remove features, or stop the service, at any time. We will try to give notice of any major change. Keep your own copy of anything important: use Export all data in Settings to download your data.

3. Your account

You sign in with a Google account. Give us accurate information, keep access to your Google account secure, and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your Scrolls account. You are responsible for what happens under your account.

One account is for one person. Don’t share it or create accounts to get around the usage limits.

4. Recording other people

Scrolls records what your Mac’s microphone hears, which includes other people. Before you record, you are responsible for:

  • getting the permission of the speaker and anyone else being recorded, where the law, your course or your organisation requires it;
  • following your course’s or bootcamp’s rules on recording;
  • using recordings, transcripts and notes only in ways the law allows, for example not publishing someone’s words or course material without permission.

Don’t use Scrolls to record a conversation secretly or to record a conversation you are not part of.

5. Your content

Your content (your recordings, transcripts, notes, Tasks, Practice, questions and anything else you put into Scrolls) belongs to you, or to whoever owns it. We don’t claim ownership of it.

You give us permission to store, process and transmit your content, including sending it to the service providers listed in the Privacy Policy, only as needed to provide Scrolls to you. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies we must keep by law.

We don’t sell your content, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI models.

Course material belongs to the people who made it. Scrolls is for your own study. Respect the speaker’s and your course’s rights in what you record.

6. AI output can be wrong

Transcripts, speaker labels, study notes, definitions, Tasks, Practice, due dates, translations and answers in Ask are produced automatically and can contain mistakes, including missed or misheard words, the wrong speaker, a wrong explanation, or a deadline that was missed or got wrong. Check anything that matters, especially deadlines, against the original session or your course.

Nothing Scrolls produces is professional, legal, medical or financial advice.

7. Acceptable use

Don’t use Scrolls to:

  • break any law, or record, store or share anything unlawfully;
  • harass, harm or invade the privacy of others;
  • get around the usage limits or the security of the service;
  • attack, overload or disrupt the service or the systems it relies on;
  • copy, modify, sell or reverse engineer the app, except where the law allows it;
  • build a competing product from the service or its output;
  • use automated tools to access the service other than through the app.

8. Free beta and usage limits

Scrolls is free during the public beta. Each account has daily usage limits so that the service stays available to everyone. The app tells you when you reach a limit.

If we introduce paid plans, we will tell you in advance. Nothing will be charged unless you choose a paid plan.

9. The app and updates

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the app on Macs you own or control, for your own use, while you follow these terms.

The beta app isn’t signed with an Apple developer certificate, so macOS warns you the first time you open it. Download Scrolls only from this website. A copy from anywhere else may have been changed.

Scrolls doesn’t update itself. When a new version is available, the app tells you and links to the Download page. Older versions may stop working with the service, so keep the app up to date.

10. Third-party services

Scrolls relies on services run by others, including Google, Supabase, Deepgram, Anthropic and Render. Their availability is outside our control, and their own terms apply to their part of the service. We are not responsible for a third-party service failing.

11. Our rights and your feedback

The app, the service, this website and the Scrolls name and logo belong to us or our licensors. These terms don’t give you any rights in them beyond the licence in section 9.

If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without any obligation to you.

12. Ending your use

You can stop using Scrolls at any time. To delete your account and its data, email us as described in the Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or to protect the service or other users. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you first and give you a chance to export your data. If we end the service as a whole, we will give at least 30 days’ notice.

Sections 5 (the last two paragraphs), 6, 11, 13, 14, 15 and 16 continue after your use ends.

13. No warranty

Scrolls is a free beta, provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promises, express or implied, that it will be accurate, complete, uninterrupted, secure or free of errors, or that it will be fit for a particular purpose. You use it at your own risk.

14. Limit of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows:

  • we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost data, lost sessions, missed deadlines, lost profits or lost opportunities, arising from your use of Scrolls or your inability to use it;
  • our total liability to you for all claims about Scrolls is limited to ₹1,000 (one thousand Indian rupees).

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

15. Indemnity

If someone makes a claim against us because of how you used Scrolls, in particular a recording you made without the permission it needed, or because you broke these terms, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs from that claim, to the extent the law allows.

16. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of India. If you have a problem, please contact us first and we will try to resolve it within 30 days. If we can’t, the courts at [City, State], India have exclusive jurisdiction.

If you use Scrolls from outside India, you are responsible for following your local laws, and any mandatory consumer rights you have where you live still apply.

17. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top and, for important changes, tell you in the app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect. If you keep using Scrolls after that, you accept the new terms. If you don’t, stop using Scrolls and you can ask us to delete your account.

If any part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Scrolls.

18. Contact and grievances

Questions or complaints about Scrolls or these terms go to our Grievance Officer:

[Name of the person responsible], Grievance Officer, Scrolls
Email: support@scrolls.example
Address: [postal address], India

We respond to every complaint within 30 days.
